Business Licenses, Permits & Third-Party Requirements
IMPORTANT LICENSING RULE
Forming, registering, amending, or reinstating a business entity does not automatically satisfy every licensing, permit, tax-registration, or industry requirement that may apply to the business.
A business may have separate requirements at the:
- Federal level
- Texas state level
- County level
- City level
- Industry or professional level
- Private third-party level
LLC FORMATION VS. BUSINESS LICENSE
Does Texas LLC Formation give me a business license?
No.
SCILLAN's Texas LLC Formation service creates the applicable Texas business entity filing.
It does not automatically provide every business license, permit, or industry registration the customer may need.
Can I start doing business immediately after my LLC is approved?
That depends on the business activity and any applicable licensing, tax, regulatory, or local requirements.
Sia should not make a legal determination.
Approved response:
“Your LLC approval establishes the entity, but separate licenses, permits, tax registrations, or industry requirements may still apply depending on your business activities and location.”
BUSINESS LICENSES
What is a business license?
A business license is generally an authorization issued by a government authority allowing certain business activities to be conducted.
Requirements vary by:
- Industry
- Location
- Business activity
- Professional status
- Regulatory agency
Does every Texas business need the same license?
No.
There is no single license that applies identically to every type of Texas business.
Requirements vary.

“Local permit requirements vary by city and business activity. Please check with the applicable local government or appropriate professional for requirements specific to your business.”

Examples may include businesses operating in regulated professional, health, financial, construction, transportation, food, or other specialized industries.
Can SCILLAN tell me whether my industry is regulated?
